Project Description
In 1999 the Arkansas legislature passed Act 1227 requiring that all information technology purchased with state funds must be readily accessible by nonvisual means. Since that time the TIC has put forth a continual effort to:

  • Investigate the accessibility issues for products being considered for purchase or development.
  • Serve as an information resource for people concerned with the accessibility of information technology.
  • Identify hardware, software and other assistive technology available for the blind and visually impaired.
  • Maintain equipment and software to demonstrate products for access to information technology for the blind and visually impaired.
  • Stay connected with individuals from the blind community and the associations that support their special needs.
  • Research how others address IT accessibility for the blind and visually impaired.
  • Identify other Arkansas demo/lab sites equipped with products to make IT accessible.
