Our Mission

The Georgia Institute of Technology's Center for Assistive Technology & Environmental Access (CATEA) is the location for the Information Technology Technical Assistance & Training Center (ITTATC), which is supported by a cooperative agreement (#H133A000405) for five years by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR)

Established in November 2000 and funded through October 2005, ITTATC will work with a broad constituency to accomplish three principal objectives:
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve the awareness and availability of accessible E&IT and telecommunication products and services;
  • Coordinate and create educational materials for diverse stakeholder groups that include designers, managers, marketers, purchasers, and consumers of E&IT and telecommunications products and services;
  • Disseminate information, training and resources to improve industry awareness, advance practical solutions, and create opportunities for innovation and change.
ITTATC will work closely with the lead regulatory agencies including the Federal Communications Commission, Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board), Department of Justice, and General Services Administration to ensure coordination of information and activities.

ITTATC's project administration is located at Georgia Institute of Technology's CATEA. However, the materials and services offered are the work of a distributed team of accessibility experts from around the US. Collaborations are negotiated on an interim basis determined by the project's short and long-term objectives.

Additionally, representatives from industry, the accessibility community, and other stakeholders serve as volunteers on a National Advisory Council to provide guidance and feedback to project administration on project direction, deliverable review, and the efficacy of the project.
